Commitment

The directory is committed to making its content and functionality accessible to users with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across all editorial pages and core platform functionality.

Accessibility is a continuous practice, not a one-time achievement. We periodically audit the site against WCAG criteria, accept user reports of accessibility barriers, and prioritise remediation in our development cycles.

Conformance status

This statement reflects the conformance status as of the last reviewed date. The directory conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA on the principal editorial pages (country deep pages, topic hubs, KB articles, firm-profile listings) and on the principal platform flows (search, listing claim, review submission, account management).

Areas where conformance is partial or in progress: complex data-table interactions on the topic-hub comparison tables (we are working to add additional ARIA-table-semantics for advanced screen-reader navigation); the initial cookie-consent banner (we have addressed keyboard-navigation but are still improving the focus order). Specific areas under remediation are listed in the public accessibility issue tracker linked from the page footer.

Features in place

Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard. The focus order is logical and visible focus indicators are present on all focusable elements.

Screen reader support: Page structure uses semantic HTML (proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, list elements for lists, table elements for tables). ARIA labels and descriptions are provided where the semantic meaning is not obvious from the surrounding markup.

Color contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.2 contrast requirements (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and meaningful UI components).

Resizable text: All text content can be resized up to 200 percent without loss of content or functionality.

Reduced motion: Animation and transition effects are reduced or disabled when the user's operating system prefers-reduced-motion preference is set.

Form labels and errors: All form fields have associated labels. Error messages are programmatically associated with their fields and are announced to assistive technologies.

Alt text on images: Decorative images carry empty alt attributes. Informative images carry descriptive alt text that conveys the image's information value.

Compatible technologies

The directory is tested against the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA (latest stable) on Windows with Firefox and Chrome.
  • JAWS (latest stable) on Windows with Edge.
  • VoiceOver on macOS Safari and iOS Safari.
  • TalkBack on Android Chrome.
  • Voice Control on macOS and Windows.

The directory is built to standards-compliant HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and should work with most assistive technologies that support modern web standards. If you encounter an issue with a specific assistive technology, please report via the contact described below.

Limitations and alternatives

Where any portion of the directory's content is not currently fully accessible, we describe the limitation and provide an alternative.

User-uploaded firm-profile content (photos, whitepapers): we encourage firms to provide alt text for uploaded images and to ensure uploaded PDFs are tagged. The directory cannot guarantee accessibility of user-uploaded content but flags missing alt text in the firm dashboard.

Third-party embeds: we do not currently embed third-party widgets that we cannot vouch for; the directory's pages are first-party content with limited third-party embed surface.

Reporting accessibility issues

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on the directory, please report it via:

  • Support contact form, "Accessibility issue" option.
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Issue tracker: linked from the page footer (publicly visible, no account required to file).

When reporting, describe: the specific page or feature affected, the assistive technology you are using (if applicable), what you tried to do, and what happened. We acknowledge accessibility reports within 5 business days and provide a substantive response within 30 days.

Standards we follow

  • WCAG 2.2 Level AA (current target).
  • ADA Title III compliance (US).
  • EN 301 549 (EU accessibility standard for ICT products and services).
  • Section 508 (US federal accessibility) where applicable to government users of the directory.
  • AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) for our Canadian Ontario-jurisdiction reach.

We do not currently issue WCAG conformance certifications; the directory's conformance is asserted in this statement and is subject to user audit and report.

Updates to this statement

We update this statement when material changes occur to the directory's accessibility posture. The "last reviewed at" date in the page metadata reflects the most recent substantive review. The directory's accessibility roadmap, including planned remediation for known issues, is published in the issue tracker linked from this page.
